The photo of Nevcihan Oluşum –the wife of Hüseyin Niyazi Hasan who was martyred during the Gaziveren Resistance in 1963 and which has gone down in history as the photo of sorrow became the storyline for a documentary.

The premier of a documentary entitled “the Sorrow of a Photo” which was jointly produced by Bayrak Radio Television Corporation and the Girne American University (GAÜ) was held yesterday.

The documentary was screened at the GAÜ Millennium Senate Congress Centre as part of the “Mediterranean Chats.”

Speaking before the screening, the Deputy Rector of the GAU Prof. Dr. Sadık Ülker said the history should be well known in order to avoid experiencing a repetition of the bitter experiences of the past.

The Dean of the Business Administration Faculty and the Head of the Cyprus Studies Prof. Dr. Ulvi Keser for his part said that the Turkish nation had never held grudges in its history and said “it is possible to look to the future more confidently without forgetting the past.”

“The Sadness of a Photo” documentary covers a photo which was taken when Nevcihan Oluşum – the wife of Hüseyin Niyazi Hasan who was martyred during the Gaziveren Resistance in 1963, heard about her husband’s death.

The documentary tells the story of the photo through statements by Nevcihan Oluşum and others who witnessed the event at the time.
