Search for ‘no man’s lands’ around the world will bring UK team to Cyprus

THE BUFFER zone that has divided the island for more than four decades has been included in a British expedition that aims to cover 1,000 years of history and some 9,600 kilometres from southern England, through the Balkans all the way to Egypt, to mark the centennial of World War I.

The expedition team, which arrives on the island later this month, consists of political geographers Dr Noam Leshem and Dr Alasdair Pinkerton and photographer Eliot Graves. In cooperation with the Royal Geographical Society, they have set out on a mission to trace the historical and political geographies of no man’s lands across Europe and Africa.
