Russia ready for cooperation to ensure progress and talks on Cyprus problem

MOSCOW, May 15. /TASS/. Russia is ready to cooperate with international partners to ensure progress at talks on the Cyprus problem, a spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova, said in a statement on Friday.

The leaders of the Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus agreed to resume on May 15, 2015 the United Nations-brokered negotiations to solve the island’s longstanding problem. “We commend this step and hope the sides will spare no effort to reach a fair, comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Cyprus dispute on the basis of corresponding resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” the statement said.

“We are ready to cooperate with partners in the United Nations Security Council to create favourable external conditions for progress at the talks,” the Russian foreign ministry noted………….
