Αccording to Bayrak(08.08.2016), the permission crisis regarding the crossing of vehicles to the Kokkina region has been solved.
Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akıncı stepped in and solved the crisis that had been experienced due to the wrong decision taken by the Greek Cypriot side.
“The decision taken by the Greek Cypriot administration regarding the crossings to the Erenkoy region was a retaliation against the decision that the “TRNC” wants to take regarding the religious ceremonies at churches in the north” said Akıncı and added that the Greek Cypriot side reviewed its decision.
“We informed the Greek Cypriot officials that if they insist with their decision this would be wrong, especially now, it will lead to tensions rising that is something we don’t need” said Akınci
Explaining that as soon as he heard of the issue he began efforts to solve the problem, Akinci said that according to the information he had received, the Greek Cypriots had given approval for not 30 vehicles but 62 vehicles to cross over to Kokkina village.
“After the developments, the Erenkoy Fighters Association who had previously decided not to take the public to the commemoration event had changed its decision” said Akıncı.
He said that 62 vehicles being given permission to cross over to Kokkina region means that close to 1250 people will be able to take part in the ceremony there.
