Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides on Sunday said President Anastasiades and new Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have asked their negotiators to prepare a joint list of ‘low politics’ confidence building measures (CBMs).
Invited to comment on remarks made by Turkish Cypriot negotiator, Ozdil Nami that the Cyprus Problem could be solved in a matter of months, Christodoulides said this list will be submitted to the two leaders who have the sole competency to decide which measures will be adopted.
Anastasiades and Akinci met on Monday, May 11, in the presence of UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser for the Cyprus problem, Espen Barth Eide, in a meeting that marked the resumption of the UN- brokered talks after ten months.
Noting that both leaders will to proceed with CBMs is important, Christodoulides noted that “they understand the added value such a process will have in parallel to the negotiating process…………..
