More Greek Cypriots than Turkish Cypriot youth find the status quo in Cyprus undesirable, according to a poll amongst 600 university students on both sides of the divide.
The poll, which shows that only 3% of Turkish Cypriots consider the division undesirable, compared to 9% of Greek Cypriots, will be presented this afternoon (17:30) at the Home for Cooperation in Nicosia.
It was carried out by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and PRIO Cyprus Centre using a sample of some 300 students from the University of Cyprus and about 300 from Eastern Mediterranean University in the north. “There is now in Cyprus a generation of youth who grew up with open crossing points,” said authors Giorgos Charalambous and Mete Hatay.
