Women as agents of peace By @eratokm1


Women throughout the centuries have struggled to safeguard their rights and participate in society on an equal footing with men.

In ancient Greece, Aristophanes’ Lysistrata persuaded the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands as a means of forcing them to negotiate peace and end the Peloponnesian war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women, calling for “liberty, equality, fraternity”, marched on Versailles to demand women’s suffrage.

Today, in many parts of the world, there are numerous similar examples of women’s courage, leadership, ingenuity and wisdom.
