UNSG praises sides’ dedication

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has noted the positive momentum in the Cyprus peace talks and praised what he described as the dedication and energy displayed by both sides for a solution.

An unofficial copy of Ban’s report on UNFICYP, to extend the mandate on the island for a period of six months, until end of January 2016, was submitted to the members of the UN Security Council on Thursday evening.

Diplomatic sources revealed the positive atmosphere created by the good relationship between the leaders of the two communities, namely President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, is reflected on the report.
