United Cyprus should take care with wages


As the negotiations to settle the Cyprus problem start to look more closely at economic issues, an International Labour Organisation (ILO) official has said that Cyprus should be careful about equalising wages too early.

Frank Hoffer, a senior research officer at the Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) of the ILO, told a conference held by the All Cyprus Trade Unions Forum that any attempt to immediately increase wages in the north would shock the economy.
