Roelf Meyer is a South African politician and businessman who played a prominent role in the negotiations to end apartheid. Talking recently about the current talks to solve the Cyprus problem, his sentiments could not have been clearer: He said that the two leaders and their teams need to inform people – Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots – about the issues discussed at every stage of the negotiations.
Meyer has been visiting Cyprus regularly over the last two years and knows firsthand what is taking place at the negotiations. He believes that Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci sincerely want to reach a win-win settlement. However, he felt a pressing need to comment on the lack of transparency in the peace process.
