The ancient Greek tragedy “Hippolytus” by Euripides will be staged on July 28 by the Theatre Organisation of Cyprus (THOC) at the ancient theatre of Salamis, just north of Famagusta in the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state.
The proposal, which is subject to the approval of the two leaders, was adopted during the first meeting of all members comprising the Technical Committee on Culture, appointed by the leaders of the two communities in May.
The meeting, at the UN-protected area of Nicosia airport, was also attended by the UN Secretary-General`s Special Representative Lisa Buttenheim and the negotiators of the two communities, Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami. Both referred to the importance given by the two leaders to the Committee`s work in bringing the two communities closer, Androulla Vassiliou, the Greek Cypriot President of the Committee told CNA.
