Talat: A solution outside the UN parameters is not possible

Under the title: “There is no point in looking for other adventures”, Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Bakis newspaper (13.07.17) reports that the former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat stated that a solution outside the UN parameters was not possible noting that such solutions would be against Turkish Cypriot interests.

In statements to the paper, Talat said that the Cyprus negotiations would resume after the “Greek Cypriot elections”: “I have said it in the past ; negotiating during an election period would be hard”, he stated.

Referring to the gas drilling, Talat said that “this constituted a very dangerous initiative that usurped the Turkish Cypriots’ right and would cause reactions from both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots”.

He also expressed the opinion that gas drilling should have started following a solution to the Cyprus problem.
