The Cyprus Turkish Football Association’s attempt to join the ranks of the South Cyprus Football Association has led to a reaction from the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Serdar Denktaş.
He sent a letter to members of the Cyprus Turkish Football Association voicing his concern regarding the membership.
In his letter Mr. Denktaş said that seeing the South Cyprus Football Association as the liberation of Turkish Cypriot football means the failure and ruin of politics and the suicide of TRNC football.
He called for the clubs to take the issue of joining KOP to their own respective General Assemblies before voting for it at the Cyprus Turkish football Association’s general assembly.
Mr. Denktaş also referred to previous statements made by the head of the CTFA Hasan Sertoğlu that the government had not dealt with any of their problems and said that this was unrealistic and aimed only to misdirect the football clubs and the public.
“During the time that was given to us we met with high ranking officials from the Turkish Football Federation and are continuing to search for solutions’ said Denktaş.
Adding that despite all of the government’s good faith Denktaş said that due to promises given behind closed doors the membership to the South Cyprus Football Association is being shown as the only alternative to solving the problems of the Cyprus Turkish Football Association.
He reiterated once again that seeing the South Cyprus Football Association as the liberator of Cyprus Turkish football is the failure of politics and the suicide of the football clubs in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
