“Red card” to Eide’s formula

According to the Greek Cypriot press, Greek Cypriot side is aiming to remove UN Secretary Cyprus Special Advisor Espen Barth Eide’s proposal in which he suggested the hydrocarbon issue to be negotiated in parallel with the Cyprus negotiations.

According to the Greek Cypriot press, Greek Cypriot side is aiming to remove UN Secretary Cyprus Special Advisor Espen Barth Eide’s proposal in which he suggested the hydrocarbon issue to be negotiated in parallel with the Cyprus negotiations.

Reportedly the issue will be discussed during tomorrow’s Greek Cypriot Council of Ministers. Newspapers wrote that at the Greek Cypriot Party Leaders Meeting which will be taking place tomorrow, Greek Cypriots will show a “red card” to Eide’s suggestion and they will be aiming to remove this suggestion from the agenda.

Phileleftheros reminded that Eide will be arriving to the island this Monday; and added that a consensus was reached regarding the management of the natural gases during the meetings between former Greek Cypriot President Demetris Cristofias and former Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat. According to Phileleftheros Greek Cypriot side is aiming to announce that they will not be discussing this issue until comprehensive solution is found. According to the news, during tomorrow’s meeting of the party leaders, decision on the steps to be taken at the Cyprus problem and how to prevent the “Turkish provocations” will be discussed.

The newspaper also noted that south Cyprus have received a promise from the USA Vice President Biden who will be visiting Turkey on Friday, to discuss the Turkish provocations in Cyprus’ EEZ According to the news, south Cyprus is not expecting a discernible result from Biden’s contacts.

VENIZELOS: “WE ARE READY TO COME OVER THE TENSIONS

 On the other hand, the newspaper wrote that the Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Evangelos Venizelos has said that they were “ready to put aside any hot incident in the Aegean and in Cyprus” According to the news, in a statement Venizelos gave to press, he said “We are in a great preparation to prevent such a possibility.” Venizelos said; “In order to prevent the increase of the tension, we are in rapid action. Military tension will not provide benefit to the area or to Greece.”
