President Nicos Anastasiades has briefed European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker on recent developments in the Cyprus problem, it was announced on Friday.
In a written statement Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides said Anastasiades and Juncker had a telephone conversation late on Thursday afternoon.
During their conversation Anastasiades briefed Juncker “on recent developments in the Cyprus problem, with an emphasis on the renewal on the part of Turkey of a Navtex for areas in the Republic of Cyprus` Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).”
Anastasiades also informed Juncker on his initiative which was aimed towards the resumption of talks to which there was no response from the Turkish side.
Juncker, Christodoulides said, told Anastasiades about “the meetings he had in Brussels with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and reaffirmed the EU`s position over the Republic of Cyprus` inalienable right to exploit the natural wealth in its EEZ”.
