Nicosia criticise Akinci permanent derogrations statements


Nicosia on Wednesday criticised statements by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci who is asking for permanent derogations from EU law in a reunited federal Cyprus.

In addition, acting government spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos noted that Akinci’s statements in New York on Tuesday reaffirm President Nicos Anastasiades’ public concerns over the future of the UN-brokered Cyprus peace talks.

“Mr Akinci’s unacceptable statements confirm President Anastasiades’ concerns that there is still a long way to go (in the reunification process) and serious challenges are still ahead of us,” Papadopoulos told state radio.
