Hala Sultan pilgrimage approved


Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has agreed to a Turkish Cypriot Mufti request that some 1,000 pilgrims of Turkish descent be permitted to visit the Hala Sultan Tekke for Kurban Bayramı.

Although Turkish Cypriots living in the occupied areas can freely cross the Green Line, Turkish nationals require special permission.

Also known as Eid al-Adha (Festival of the Sacrifice), Kurban Bayrami is the second of two religious holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide each year.
