The mayor of occupied Famagusta issued a call yesterday to all Famagustians to support a peaceful protest on Saturday, saying he has reasons to believe a solution is very near.
Galanos did not give a lot of details on the source of his optimism but he pointed to contacts he had in the last few days that left him with a good impression.
President Nicos Anastasiades, Greek Cypriot chief negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis, and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides were some of the people Galanos had discussed the latest developments. He also attended a dinner hosted by Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci just after a music performance at Othello Tower.
