Conservation works to the mosque of Deneia on the outskirts of Nicosia are now complete, the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, the European Union and UNDP announced on Wednesday.
“Deneia/Denya Mosque was the first site from a list of 40 selected by the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, to benefit from emergency measures in 2012,” the announcement also said.
“Following the completion of emergency measures in April 2013, upon request of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage further works were implemented to provide the mosque with a roof, hence ensuring a longer-term preservation of the monument as well as its possible reuse,” it added.
The interventions carried out for this monument comprised emergency measures to protect, restore and preserve the stonework and architectural features in their present state.
As well as to upgrade the surrounding area – fencing and landscaping of the site.
A ceremony will be held on Friday morning in the Mosque’s courtyard to mark the successful completion of the project.
