We are one day away from the 42nd anniversary of July 20th, 1974, one of the landmark days when the history of our island was reframed through violence. After 42 years, we do not want to commemorate this day with provocative speeches and actions that will stir up the pain, but by confronting our own pain. We desire that Cyprus can emphasise the mutuality of pain and can embrace peace and unity.
Today, we are faced with the dark history of our country through our visit to the Anthropological Laboratory of the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus. Today, what we saw in the Laboratory were the remaining of lost lives, exemplifying once again how strongly we are in need for peace and a solution.
