Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot electricity grids have been joined

According to Bayrak (02.01.2016) Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot electricity grids have been joined.
Within the framework of the confidence building measures (CMP) agreements between Mustafa Akıncı and Nikos Anastasiades during the Cyprus negotiations process, the electricity grid between the north and south of the island have been connected at two points.
One of the connection points is in Nicosia’s Athalassa region and the second is in Nikitas.
An international company will simultaneously build facilities in the north and the south and make permanent the electricity grids to that of international standards.
The electricity grids that was prepared previously for the connection was joined after a speeding meeting between the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority KIB-TEK and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus on the 1st day of 2016.
During the first stage, if needed, 20 to 30 megawatts of electricity can be provided from the stations.
Both stations are ready to provide electricity if there is an electricity cut in the country.
