According to Bayrak (20/01/2016), a delegation from the TMT Freedom Fighters Association who paid a visit to the Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst has demanded that national values are preserved in the education system.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the TMT Association Yılmaz Bora said that the aim of their visit was to convey their concerns about possible changes to be introduced in the education system.
“We are a generation that grew up celebrating the 19th of May, the 30th of August, the 29th of October and the 23rd of April” said Bora, underlining the importance of reminding younger generations of Turkish history and the heroic national struggle waged by the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
“A country cannot exist without national education, national press or a national economy” Bora added.
For his part, the Minister of National Education Kemal Dürüst said that they will make sure that national values are preserved.
“We shall educate our youth on our experiences from history but in line with the modern and contemporary norms” he said.
Dürüst also said that they were eternally grateful to past generations for the heritage they left behind for future generations.
The education minister also stressed that the national values should not only be remembered on national holidays but in our everyday lives.
